Jacob has experience teaching oboe, composition, music theory, and general music ranging from grades K-12 up to the collegiate level. He is currently serving as a sabbatical replacement for Paige Morgan on the Oboe Faculty at Ithaca College for the Fall 2019 semester. Here, he teaches undergraduate private oboe lessons, leads weekly studio masterclasses, teaches advanced reed making, and Oboe Pedagogy for the Music Educator. Jake has previously served as a part time lecturer at the Ithaca College School of Music in Spring of 2016 where he first taught Oboe Pedagogy for the Music Educator.
Jake has worked as an Associate Instructor for the Department of Music Theory at Indiana University for three years (2016-2019) under Dr. Kyle Adams, chair. Here he taught Written Music Theory and Aural Skills to undergraduate music majors at all levels, and one semester of music fundamentals to non music majors. Jake has been a faculty member at the Ithaca College Summer Music Academy since 2016, where he taught Music Theory at the High School Division (grades 9-12). Jacob has also taught Music Composition at the IC SMA since 2016 for both the High School and Intermediate (grades 6-8) Division. Jake has been the Composer in Residence at the Luzerne Music Center since 2019, where he taught private music composition lessons, taught group music theory classes, and organized the world premiere of 7 student compositions over the course of his four weeks there.
In 2016, Jacob was a Teaching Artist through the Project 4 Program at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY. Here, he and talented theatre educator Gabriella Carr taught core curriculum subjects to a fourth grade class through the performing arts. Jacob and Gabriella's fourth grade class wrote a script, composed original music, memorized raps/songs, and performed the final work at the Hangar Theatre.
In addition to his current appointment at Ithaca College, he is a Teaching Artist through the Ithaca New Music Collective, mentoring students at Boynton Middle School in private and group Music Composition instruction.
